Bogers en Jonass seventh and eighth in MXGP of Sardegna

Brian Bogers en Pauls Jonass finished seventh and eighth at round ten of the world championship MXGP in Riola Sardo.

Celebrating his birthday at the MXGP of Sardegna, Brian Bogers rewarded himself with a solid seventh-place overall result in the MXGP class. A great start in race one saw the Dutchman run up front early on before settling into sixth at the halfway stage. On the final lap, an aggressive pass on Jeremy Seewer saw the MC 450F racer advance one more spot to secure his fifth-place finish.

For race two, another top-10 start saw Brian run as high as eighth, before bringing home his GASGAS in ninth position for seventh-overall. A solid day at the office for the newly turned 25-year-old.

An excellent start in moto one saw Pauls Jonass emerge from the first turn up front, until one of his rivals frustratingly cut across in front of him. Very fortunate to remain upright, the close call pushed the Latvian way down the field where he then became involved in a fierce mid-pack battle. By race end, Jonass ultimately claimed 13th.

For race two, a strong start saw Pauls move into fourth as he exited turn one, a position he’d remain in until the closing stages of the race. Dropping back to sixth at the finish, the 24-year-old would secure eighth overall.

Brian Bogers: “I really enjoyed today, racing in the sand again. My first moto was really good, starting in eighth and working my way up to fifth, so I was really happy with that one. I was hoping for more of the same in the second moto, but I didn’t get a great start, somewhere mid-pack, but I was able to make my way up to ninth pretty quickly. Frustratingly, I got stuck behind another rider and it was a little one-lined today. I just couldn’t find a way past him and spent all my energy trying to do so. Seventh-overall today isn’t too bad, but it should have been better.”

Pauls Jonass: “Not my best of days and I’m a little disappointed with my riding. After Turkey we did a lot of great work but it just didn’t seem to translate when I was out on track. My starts were good though and it was really disappointing to have a little get together in race one just after the start. I was lucky to stay up but I lost a lot of positions. Overall, it was a really tough track and I’m happy to be leaving here healthy. Up next is Teuschenthal and that’s been a good track for me in the past, so I’m going there aiming for a strong result.”

Standing Construct GASGAS Factory Racing will return to FIM Motocross World Championship action on October 3 for the MXGP of Germany.
