Pauls Jonass fourth in Sardinian Grand Prix
Pauls Jonass of Standing Construct Honda MXGP has ridden a strong third round of the MXGP World Championship in Sardinia. In the hot and humid conditions, Jonass managed to finish fifth and fourth in the motos and this earned him a fourth place in the day’s classification.
On Saturday, the pace was high in the time practice. Jonass did several attempts to put a fast lap together and ended up in ninth place. The differences with the riders in front of him were small, so he knew that if he got a good start, he had to be able to get more in the qualifying heat. Jonass was well in front at the start of the qualifying heat and came out of the first lap in sixth place. He soon managed to work his way up to fifth place and held on to this position till the checkered flag fell.
With fifth place in the qualifying heat, Jonass had an ideal starting spot in both motos on Sunday. In the first moto he got a very good start and was in third place in the first few laps. Then he fell back to fourth place and he also managed to hold on to this position for a long time. In the final stages he had to give up one place and crossed the finish line in fifth place.
In the second moto, Jonass came out of the first lap in sixth place and immediately had a good rhythm in his hands. In the early stages he moved up to fifth place and in the middle of the race he also managed to take over fourth place. Here he managed to hold on well for the rest of the moto and crossed the finish line in fourth place.
With a 5-4 in the motos, Jonass finished in fourth place in the day’s standings. In the world championship standings, he occupies fifth place and is 12 points behind the third man in the standings. This weekend the championship continues in Arco di Trento, Italy.
